Eric Lefkofsky Delivers Better Patient Care with Tempus

Eric Lefkofsky may not be able to cure cancer with his data-driven operating system for the healthcare industry, but his company Tempus will make it so treatment can be more effectively determined and delivered. Lefkofsky co-founded Tempus after seeing the problems in his wife’s treatment after she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her patient information seemed to get lost between offices and things that he thought should be in her history just weren’t. He sought to change this for his wife and every patient.

Tempus will not only revolutionize the industry by making traditional parts of a patient’s history more accessible and interconnected, it seeks to make less mainstream data a regular part of patient care. This includes making handwritten notes searchable, but is also encouraging collecting an individual’s complete genetic profile to get a more complete picture of their health.

Eric Lefkofsky, a graduate of University of Michigan’s Law School, has achieved much success in business as the co-founder of companies like Lightbank, Groupon, and Uptake. He specializes in investing in up and coming technology in many forms. Lefkofsky stepped down from CEO to Chairman of Groupon to put his efforts into Tempus. Currently holding the position of adjunct professor at the University of Chicago, he is also a published author of Accelerated Disruption.

His passion for business and technology is rivaled by his desire to help others. Having already donated millions to charity over the past few years, he and his wife also joined the Giving Pledge and have vowed to donate half of their earnings. Along with founding many successful businesses, he also founded his charitable trust called the Lefkofsky Foundation. His foundation focuses on helping those in and around his community of Chicago with a particular focus on helping children and cancer patients. Eric Lefkofsky is on the board of directors at The Art Institute of Chicago, The Museum of Science and Industry and Children’s Memorial Hospital of Chicago.
